Integrated Phase Antenna Array with Beam Steering Capabilities
Using the Ferroelectric Technology

MAGDY ISKANDER & WAYNE KIM

The design of an integrated phased antenna array with beam steering capability represents an alternative low cost design that may still provide the much needed low cost, while maintaining the required high performance. Similar to the case of the phase shifters, we utilized the multilayer dielectric materials structure with Ferroelectric materials in the phased antenna array technology. Fig. 1a shows the basic parallel plate phased array structure. It consists of parallel plate waveguide feed, and radiating open ended stubs that are carefully designed to provide the desired radiation pattern in a specific frequency band.
