LABORATORY FACILITIES
Un-Exploded-Ordnance (UXO) Testbed

This testbed was developed in 2006 to support the ongoing project on “The Detection and Discrimination of UXOs in the Volcanic Soil of Hawaii”. Figures below show the basic components of the  testbed which includes:

1. Gantry (tri-axis) antenna position control system

2. A “sand box” that contains the UXOs, and clutter, embedded in sand and soil of specific characteristics typical of the site under test;

3. A dual polarized antenna system, and

4. A Network analyzer controlled by a computer and GUI for controlling the antenna scans, and DSP algorithms for the UXO discrimination.

(b) Gantry (tri-axis) antenna position control system, (c) antenna system radiating into the

sand box,(d) the developed GUI for data extraction and analysis, together with the network

analyzer.
